AFGE has sole authority to negotiate on behalf of "bargaining unit" employees at Wright-Patterson AFB. Our bargaining unit includes all non-supervisory, non-professional employees at ASC, Hq AFMC, AFSAC, Medical Center, the heating plants, DeCA and most other Wright-Patterson AFB tenant organizations. If you fall into one of these groups, you are covered by our contract, known as the "Master Labor Agreement" (MLA).
The MLA is a strong document. In authority, it supercedes Air Force regulations/instructions, DOD regulations and even Executive orders. Only Federal law can take precedence over the terms of our MLA.
AFGE fought hard to win this agreement, which covers employees at Wright Patterson AFB and five Air Logistics Centers. It guarantees basic rights for bargaining unit employees beyond those mandated by law. It gives employees the right to negotiate (through AFGE) major changes in working conditions. If your unit undergoes a reorganization, AFGE must approve the change. This is a powerful provision--but only if the affected workers use it.
It's good to know your contract and the rights it guarantees. Union members can get of copy of the MLA on request. For members and non-members, click here for what's covered.
